The boxer braid is one of the most practical and stylish types of braids for everyday use. Democratic, it can be done on all hair types and also has no restrictions on most hair lengths. Even though they have been successful for so long, many people still have doubts about how to do boxer braids and their variations: with or without jumbo, in short or long hair, double and quadruple, it depends on the creativity of whoever is doing the braid hairstyle.

That's why, today, Fica Diva is going to help you out: today, we're going to tell you everything you need to know about these super popular boxer braid hairstyles. Check it out!

Boxer braid: how did the hairstyle come about and when to wear braids in your hair?

As its name makes clear, boxer braids are a hairstyle that came straight from the boxing rings to hair trends. Before training and fights, female boxers needed a look that was tied and tight so that the hair did not get in the way of the activity, and the two side braids style became very popular.

Nowadays, boxer braid models are still used in this context, but even those who don't go anywhere near the boxing ring can enjoy the style. Women's braids are a great choice for relaxed appointments, such as a trip to the mall or some outdoor activity, for sports in general and even for a day at work - depending on the style of your company. In addition, boxer braids are also a great choice for hot days, because they leave the neck free and help to refresh the owners of medium and long strands.

How to do a boxer braid: hairstyle step by step

One of the main advantages that the boxer braid has is that it is simple to do: if you manage to do a braid embedded in your hair, you will certainly not find it difficult to reproduce the style. Take a look at the step by step:

  • Step 1: finish clean hair with your usual combing cream and divide into two equal parts;

  • Step 2: to make it easier, secure one side before starting to braid;

  • Step 3: separate a lock from the front and divide it into three;

  • Step 4: start braiding passing the locks from the ends to the middle, one at a time;

  • Step 5: after doing this movement once, start adding more hair to the hairstyle by always adding a little more hair to the side section that will be passed to the middle;

  • Step 6: when you reach the nape of the neck, when you don't have any more hair to add, finish the look with a simple braid and secure the end to hold the strands or pin the hair at that height;

  • Step 7: repeat the process on the other side.

Diva tip: applying a good combing cream makes all the difference!

In order not to run the risk of breaking your hair while doing boxer braids, it is very important that your hair is well hydrated and that you have applied a specific styling cream for your hair type. Thus, the friction is softened by the texture and by the active ingredients present in the product, guaranteeing the protection of braided hair. After doing the boxer braid, our tip is that you apply a tip repair oil to further rid the hair of frizz and reduce split ends.

Is it possible to do a boxer braid on short, layered hair?

A lot of people have this doubt when it comes to updo hairstyles like the boxer braid in short, layered hair. The answer is that with the right tricks it is possible to bet on the look. In hair with uneven cuts, which have strands of different sizes, it is worth betting on bobby pins and barrettes to help keep everything in place.

On short hair, built-in braids can be easily done, as they do not necessarily depend on the length of the strands to be ready. Barrettes and clips also help to hold the look longer, but you can also use a hair clip to extend the effect.

Is it possible to do the boxer braid on curly and frizzy hair?

The boxer braid can be created in all types of yarn, including curly and frizzy ones. However, curly strands tend to suffer from a greater excess of frizz, which can interfere a little with the result of the built-in braid. To get around this, apply a styling cream that has anti-frizz action on curly or frizzy hair before reproducing the braid. Thus, the result will be even more dazzling and free of frizzy hair.

Boxer braid: variations of the look are also successful

If you are already an expert in the look of built-in braids and want to improve when making the boxers, you can bet on a greater number of initial divisions. That is: in addition to dividing the hair in half before starting to braid, you can divide it twice more and make four braids instead of just two. They can be whole or meet at the nape of the neck, forming a braid on each side at the end.

Another boxer braid style that is also very successful is the one made with jumbo, the same material as box braids. The permanent hairstyle is usually done by the same professional as the synthetic braids, but it is less durable, as it holds your natural hair in a different way. In that case, you can choose the boxer of different sizes and colors.
